TaxSlayer Pro encourages you to keep your web browser up to date. This is especially true for preparers using TaxSlayer ProWeb, but regularly updating your browser is good practice for anyone.
We recommend ProWeb preparers use Google Chrome as their web browser, but Microsoft Edge will also work. Each of those browsers may display a notification at the top right of the browser window when the browser needs to be relaunched in the wake of an update, so when you see that notification we encourage you to act on it, but if you're a ProWeb preparer be sure you're not working in a tax return, and if you have any other website open with unsaved work, be sure to save it before relaunching the browser.
Here is how to check if Chrome or Edge are in need of an update on your PC. We recommend checking for updates regularly, rather than relying on the browser to keep itself up to date.
Google Chrome
Normally updates happen in the background when you close and reopen Chrome But if you haven't closed the browser in a while, you might find a pending update.
- Open Chrome.
- At the top right, select the three-dot menu, then Help, then About Google Chrome. If there is an update waiting, Chrome will download and install it.
- When it's done updating, select Relaunch.
If you don't see a Relaunch button, you're up to date.
Microsoft Edge
By default, Microsoft Edge automatically updates when you start it. Otherwise, to check for an update, do this:
- Open Edge.
- At the top right, select the three-dot menu, then Help and feedback, then About Microsoft Edge. If there is an update waiting, Edge will download and install it.
- When it's done updating, select Restart.
If you don't see a Restart button, you're up to date.
