TaxSlayer Pro runs on a computer that uses Microsoft Windows as its operating system. If you attempt to install TaxSlayer Pro on an Apple device using macOS you will receive an error message similar to this:
There is no application set to open the document "settuppro.msi".
On any Mac, you can run Windows as a virtual machine using Parallels, then download and install TaxSlayer Pro in the Windows virtual environment. Parallels allows the Mac to run Windows as an application within the macOS itself.
On an Intel-based Mac, you can download and install TaxSlayer Pro in a Windows partition using Boot Camp, an Apple utility included with macOS. Boot Camp allows you to create a separate Windows partition on your Mac's hard drive. Booting into the Windows partition allows the Mac to run Windows as its native operating system. Boot Camp is only available on a Mac with an Intel CPU.
While either Parallels or Boot Camp can be used on an Intel-based Mac, Parallels is required if your Mac is based on Apple Silicon, i.e., using an M-series CPU.
You will need to purchase a licensed copy of Microsoft Windows to use with either Boot Camp or Parallels. See here for the Windows versions we currently support.
Note: TaxSlayer Pro Support cannot provide assistance with installing, configuring, or troubleshooting Boot Camp or Parallels.
Additionally, TaxSlayer Pro is not tested nor guaranteed to run properly in any type of virtual machine (including Parallels). We can only provide limited assistance with displays, printers, scanners, signature pads, and other issues that appear to be related to the virtual machine configuration or operation.
