Networking
If you are preparing tax returns on more than one computer in an office, we recommend having a local network technician ensure that all computers are on the same network before contacting TaxSlayer Pro for technical support. They should ensure the network is configured for TaxSlayer Pro to function properly.
Printer / Scanner Recommendations
TaxSlayer Pro is compatible with any HP (Hewlett-Packard) compatible printer. When considering a printer for your office, purchase a printer with the highest output (PPM), or printing speed, that your budget can afford.
If you will be printing checks for bank products in your office, we recommend using a laser printer rather than an ink jet printer.
Scanners used with the PaperCut program should be fully TWAIN compliant. Unfortunately, due to scanner manufacturer design variations, the only way to truly tell if a scanner is compatible with PaperCut is to test it using PaperCut.
Wireless Internet Connections
A wireless Internet connection will work with TaxSlayer Pro, but it's not the recommended Internet connection. Wireless Internet connections are more susceptible than wired connections to service outages and speed fluctuations. These outages can cause problems when trying to transmit returns, receive acknowledgments, and/or get updates. When these problems arise, you must wait until a reliable Internet connection is restored. For these reasons TaxSlayer Pro recommends a more reliable wired cable or DSL Internet connection.
Additionally, care must be taken to avoid public WiFi. Not only is your security compromised, but some functions of TaxSlayer Pro can be inhibited.
Cable/DSL/Fiber/Dial-up Connections
Cable, DSL, and fiber connections are faster and more reliable than most other types of Internet connections. Other types of connections are either slower or more subject to periodic loss of connectivity. Due to the size of the TaxSlayer Pro program installation and some of the updates, a dial up connection is impractical. Anyone using a dial up connection should be prepared for very long download times and frequent dropped connections.
Satellite Internet Service
Satellite Internet service, while faster than dial-up Internet service, is usually slower than most other types of Internet connections. Satellite Internet service is also generally more expensive than Cable, DSL, or Fiber Internet service. It may be the only high speed option available in some rural areas, so it should only be considered when there is no other form of high speed Internet service available.
