PrepCheck - TaxSlayer Pro PrepCheck is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to assist with federal tax questions. Ask it a question, and it will mine IRS instructions, publications and TaxSlayer's Knowledgebase for the answer, then present its results along with one or more links to the source of its answer. State instructions are being built into PrepCheck.
New Tax Law Comparison Summary - The program includes a summary of the new tax provisions effecting 2025 tax returns, comparing 2025 to both 2024 and 2023. The Tax Law Comparison is located on the left navigation menu or by clicking here.
Print Options - Added more View/Print icons on various forms to easily visualize the IRS form with the program entries.
Filing Status Menu - Added the “Spouse itemized on their separate return” checkbox to the filing status page.
Personal Information - New checkbox if the taxpayers address is foreign and they lived in the US more than half the year. This is a qualifying question for EIC calculation if applicable.
Deductions Menu - Additional Deductions (Schedule 1-A) has been added to the 2025 program to include the following changes made by the IRS:

Schedule A, Itemized Deductions
- We are now displaying the amounts pulled to the Schedule A from the medical deductions entered on the Social Security entries and the self-employed health insurance from Schedules C and F.
- Charitable contributions that were limited in the prior year are now carried forward and do not need to be manually entered
- No Tax on Tips - Up to $25,000 per return, for tips can be deducted as a below the line deduction and will reduce Adjusted Gross Income. Tips will continue be reported on the W-2. Tips are subject to Federal Income Tax Withholding, FICA and Medicare Tax in the same manner as previously. Tip income will still be included in earned income.
- No Tax on Overtime - Up to $12,500 per individual ($25,000 maximum on a MFJ return) can be taken as a below the line deduction. It will still be considered earned income.
- No Tax on Car Loan Interest - Car loan interest is deductible for new car loans made after December 31, 2024.
- Enhanced Deduction for Seniors - Starting in 2025, taxpayers that are 65 or older can claim a new $6,000 bonus deduction. This provision was included to help offset taxes on Social Security benefits, but it is not tied to Social Security. The new $6,000 senior deduction is a below the line deduction and can be taken even if they itemize their deductions.
Form W-2 - On the W-2 if “D, E, F, G, H, S, AA, or BB” are entered in Box 12, then the “Retirement” box is automatically checked.
Form 1099-DA, Digital Asset Proceeds From Broker Transactions - This is a new form introduced by the IRS to report the sale, exchange or disposal of financial interest in a digital asset. This has been added to the Schedule D, Capital Gains/Loss menu.
1099-R, Distributions From Pensions, Annuities, Retirement - Improved the 1099-R flow when the distribution code equals 1, S, or J. There is now an easy way to indicate there is an exclusion to the penalty
and navigate quickly between the 1099-R and 5329.
Schedule K-1 - Enhanced the K-1 entry screens for 1065 and 1120S. There are now clear messages if a non-cash charitable contribution or capital gain contribution must be entered directly on the Schedule A.
Schedule F, Profit or Loss From Farming - Improved Schedule F entry by grouping the Crop Insurance Proceeds and Federal disaster payments, also added actual YEAR in the text for more clarity.
Form 4592, Investment Interest Expense Deduction - We have added Part II to the Form 4952 for determining Net Investment Income.
Depreciation Module
- Added MACRS 50 YR method.
- Added MACRS 50 YR ADS method.
- Updated several other MACRS and ADS methods to better match the current 4562 form and instructions.
- Added descriptions of example assets next to each method.
- Hid methods that are no longer being used (unless it is in the users list as a carryforward asset).
Form 8936, Clean Vehicle Credit - Updated to reflect the new 9/30/2025 expiration date for the purchase of the qualified vehicle.
Form 4136, Credit for Federal Tax Paid on Fuels - Added a qualifying question that must be answered YES to access the Fuel Tax Credit.
Form 5405, Repayment of the First-Time Homebuyer Credit - Removed the Repayment of the First-Time Homebuyer Credit. 2024 was the final year.
Form 8958, Allocation of Tax Amounts Between Certain Individuals in Community Property States - Allow Form 8958 for Single and HOH filing statuses to comply with RDP filings in community property states.
Form 3468, Investment Credit – added a couple of checkboxes per new form.
Form 4255, Certain Credit Recapture, Excessive Payments, and Penalties - Major form changes Form 5695 major form changes and layout improvements.
Form 8864, Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel - removed several fields and added transfer credits and elective payment menu.
Form 8908, Energy Efficient Home Credit - Added new qualifying questions.
Form 3800, General Business Credit – Transfer credits addition.
Form 8839, Qualified Adoption Expenses - Updated calculation up to $5,000 refundable.
Form 8082, Notice of Inconsistent Treatment or Administrative Adjustment Request - Minor General Info changes.

E-file Warnings
- Schedule A - Added e-File warning when Schedule A is created and line 5a is blank to prompt users to enter sales tax deduction to maximize itemized deductions.
- Form 8615 -Added e-File warning when a child, claimed as a dependent on another return, with unearned income greater than $2,700 (for TY2025) and not filing a joint return is missing Form 8615 on their return that they may be required to file this form.
- Form 1116 -Added e-file warning about foreign taxes paid greater than $300/$600 threshold and no Form 1116 filed.
WorldPay - Tax Slayer Pro has partnered with WorldPay to allow taxpayers to easily pay their balance due with a credit card. This has been added to the Electronic Payment menu.
