In TaxSlayer Pro, an individual tax return that includes Social Security income will include in the printed return the Social Security Benefits Worksheet. This worksheet is found in the Form 1040 instructions and is used to calculate the taxable amount of benefits, if any.
On the worksheet, the nontaxable amount is entered on line 8 and varies depending on the taxpayer's filing status and, if filing MFS, on whether the taxpayer lived apart from their spouse for the entire year. If the taxpayer is filing MFS and did not live apart from their spouse the entire year, no part of their Social Security benefits is nontaxable and line 8 will be blank.
