Web Reports: Electronic Filing Summary

The Electronic Filing Summary provides information about each electronically filed individual tax return, including when the federal return and each state return was filed and acknowledged and each return's status, whether accepted or rejected. Report data is available for the current and five prior tax years.

Setting up and running the report

The report has two menus, one for selecting the report filters and the other for selecting the EFIN(s) to be reported on. Upon arrival at the report window the Filter Selection menu will already be open. Each menu is opened by clicking it.

Filter Selection

Tax Year - The current tax year is selected by default but change to a prior year if needed.

Start Date and End Date - Set the transmission date range.

EFIN Selection

Select the EFIN(s) you'd like reported on.

When you've finished with the selections, click one of the two "Run Report" buttons:

Run Report

Click this to display the report on-screen, after which you can optionally (a) refine the data to be included in the report, (b) export the report, and (c) save the report template to make it easy to run again in the future.

Run Report For Export

This button functions the same as the "Run Report" button but for large offices allows for all data for all EFINs to be exported. If you clicked "Run Report" but the report output was abbreviated due to the volume of the data, rerun the report clicking this button instead.

If no returns are found, click the orange "Go Back" button to return to the Filter and EFIN Selection menus. It's possible you need to change or broaden one or more of the parameters you specified.

Each time you arrive at the Filter and EFIN Selection menus, all the selections you previously made will have reset to their initial default values, so you'll need to reselect the ones you want for the report.

Control buttons when viewing the report

Go Back

Click "Go Back" to return to the Filter and EFIN Selection window.

Export Report

This button will display if you chose "Run Report". Click it to export the report to a CSV file suitable for importing into your spreadsheet program.

Export Full Report

This button will display if you chose "Run Report For Export". Click it to export the full report to a CSV file suitable for importing into your spreadsheet program.

Save Report

Click "Save Report" to save the report Filter and EFIN Selections and column filters to make it easier to run the report again in the future. After clicking the button, enter a name for the saved report template, then click OK to save it.

Selecting the columns to report

You can exclude any column of data you don't want in the report. To exclude a column in the report, click the blue "Column Selection" heading to reveal the report columns.

To exclude a column, click the blue button with its name. Its color will change to red indicating it's not included, and it will disappear from the report.

An alternate way to select the columns to report is to click the orange "Clear All" button, removing every column in the report, followed by selecting just the columns you desire to be in the report.

What information does this report include?

The Electronic Filing Summary includes the following data for each e-filed return.

Ack Code (Accepted, Rejected, Transmitted)
Ack Date
Agency ID (FD = Federal, or state abbreviation)
EFIN
First Name
Last Four (last four digits of the taxpayer SSN)
Last Name
Preparer Name
Started Date
Submission ID
Transmit Date
