Once a generic TaxesToGo app account has been created, i.e. the taxpayer doesn't see your branding in the app, there isn’t a way to switch the account to your branding. The branding is tied directly to the taxpayer's email address that you use to send out the referral link from Account Hub. For the branding to work, the referral link e-mail address must match the registered address.
For the taxpayer's TaxesToGo app to be branded, the taxpayer needs to create their app account using the same e-mail address you used to send them your branded URL (as shown on the referral link page in Account Hub). If they use a different e-mail address than the one you entered, the app will be generic.
Additionally, if they download TaxesToGo directly from Google Play or the Apple App Store, rather than starting with your branded URL, the app will be generic.
Note that both the generic and branded TaxesToGo apps have the same functionality, and the process of preparing the tax return is the same.
How to fix
If the taxpayer wishes to see your branded TaxesToGo app after registering for the generic version, you and they will need to start the process over using a different e-mail address. (If they don't have another e-mail address, then they will need to either get one or just continue with the generic app.)
If they have another e-mail address, send your referral link to the new address. The taxpayer will need to do the following steps:
- Uninstall the generic app on their device.
- Select your referral link in the message sent to the new e-mail address.
- Register the app account with the new e-mail address.
Note: The primary difference between the generic and branded TaxesToGo apps is the process of claiming the app. Branded apps show up in your TaxesToGo queue and can be claimed there, while generic apps are pulled in manually by entering the taxpayer's e-mail address and tax code.
