If you are experiencing network issues with TaxSlayer Pro, contact us to make a ticket for one of our tech support agents to assist. A misconfigured network can make it difficult to retrieve return data and determine which computers have the wrong data, and can also result in inaccurate TaxSlayer Pro reports.
If you have a local technician that normally assists you with your computers, we will be happy to speak with them on your behalf to make sure that the TaxSlayer Pro program is networked appropriately.
Wired or Wi-fi?
While you can use a wireless network with TaxSlayer Pro, we recommend a wired network as it alleviates security and reliability issues inherent in a wireless network.
How many computers can you use?
TaxSlayer Pro does not limit the number of computers that can use the program networked, however the Windows operating system does have a restriction on the number of "device connections" that can be established. This restriction is relevant for the PC that is designated as the File Server in TaxSlayer Pro. Windows 10 and 11 support up to 20 device connections.
Note that while 20 is the maximum number of device connections permitted, depending on the software installed the actual number of computers that can connect might be less than the maximum.
For the purposes of networking, TaxSlayer Pro doesn't require a Microsoft server operating system such as Windows Server 2025. A Windows Server operating system is only needed on the PC designated as the File Server when there are more TaxSlayer Pro workstation PCs connecting to it than its non-server Windows operating system will support.
