If you are experiencing network issues, it is important to contact us before the tax season begins so we can ensure that your computers are working properly in time for the season. Networking calls are time-consuming, so it is important to call us with these issues when you have the time to devote to it.
If you have a network that has not been running properly all tax season, it can become difficult to retrieve the return data and determine which computer(s) have the wrong data, and can also result in inaccurate TaxSlayer Pro reports. If you have a technician that normally assists you with this process, we will be happy to speak with them on your behalf to make sure that the TaxSlayer Pro program is networked appropriately.
While you can use a wireless network with TaxSlayer Pro, we recommend a wired network as it alleviates security and reliability issues inherent in a wireless network.
TaxSlayer Pro does not limit the number of computers that can be networked. However, the Windows operating system does have restrictions on the number of connections that can be established. This restriction is relevant for the PC that is designated as the File Server in TaxSlayer Pro. These Windows operating systems support up to 20 network connections:
- Windows 10
- Windows 11
Note that while 20 is the maximum number of network connections permitted, depending on the software installed the actual number of computers that can connect might be less than the maximum.
For the purposes of networking, TaxSlayer Pro doesn't require a Microsoft server operating system such as Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019. A Windows Server operating system is only needed on the PC designated as the File Server when there are more Workstations connecting to it than its non-server Windows operating system will support.
