TaxSlayer Pro supports the electronic filing of individual state amended returns for all return types except for the following states and years:
- Alabama (Tax years 2024 and prior)
- Arizona (Tax years 2024 and prior)
- Hawaii
- Minnesota (Nonresident return for tax years 2024 and prior)
- Nebraska (Tax years 2024 and prior)
Some states use a separate form ending in the letter X, and this form may have three columns similar to the 1040-X. Other states amend the original return by checking a check box in the return header to indicate that the return is being amended, or in the case of California including Schedule X with the return makes it an amended return. However it's done for a particular state, complete the amended return, and if it's not for one of the above states and years, ensure the return is marked for electronic filing.
See here for more information about each state's amending process in TaxSlayer Pro.
Caveat For Transmitting Federal and State Amended Returns
Unlike original returns, federal and state amended returns are not linked when electronically filed.
If you have amended both the federal and the state returns, e-file the federal amended return first and do not e-file the state amended return until the federal acceptance has been received. (State returns pass through the IRS, so if you e-file the state amended return before the federal acceptance has been received, the IRS will treat the transmission as a duplicate of the previous transmission and will discard it.)
