The WA Cares Fund, formerly known as the Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) Trust Program, is a contributory long-term care insurance program for qualified, eligible residents of the state of Washington. It is funded by a 0.58% payroll tax. An employee subject to the tax will see it deducted on their W-2 in Box 14 though may possibly see it in the state information section.
In TaxSlayer Pro, when entering a W-2 that includes this tax, if it's in Box 14 it is an "Other" withholding. It can also be deducted as a state income tax on Schedule A.
Certain employees are not subject to the WA Cares Fund tax, and it's the employee's responsibility to provide their employer with their approved exemption letter. If an exempt employee's W-2 incorrectly shows tax withholdings, it is their employer's responsibility to refund them.
