A nonresident individual income tax return will reject with code F1040NR-065 if it is missing information:
Reject Code: F1040NR-065
At least one of the following must have a non-zero value on Form 1040NR: 'TotalECIAmt' or 'AdjustedGrossIncomeAmt' or 'TaxAmt' or 'TotalCreditsAmt' or 'TotalTaxAmt' or 'TotalPaymentsAmt' unless Schedule D (Form 1040) or Form 8582 or Form 8962 is present in the return.
Unless the return includes Schedule D (Form 1040), Form 8582, or Form 8962, it will reject if it's missing all of the following: effectively connected income, adjusted gross income, tax, credits, or payments.
To resolve Reject Code F1040NR-065, first check to see if any tax withholding documents were entered. From the Main Menu of the tax return (Form 1040-NR) select:
- Payments, Estimates & EIC
- Other 1040NR Payment - Examine each menu line for Form 1042-S, Form 8805, and Form 8288-A. If any has an entry, that entry only records the income tax withheld. You will need to separately enter the income it relates to in the appropriate income menu.
Otherwise, if no tax was withheld for the taxpayer and the return is missing all of the forms or kinds of amounts listed above, then the taxpayer either doesn't have a filing requirement or the return will need to be filed in paper form.
