California Form 593, Real Estate Withholding Statement is used to report real estate withholding on sales, installment payments, and like-kind exchanges. The information on Form 593 is entered in the taxpayer's individual tax return.
To enter Form 593 in the individual tax return in TaxSlayer Pro, from the California Tax Return Menu (Form 540 or 540NR) select:
- Total Payments

Real Estate Withholding (593) - Select New.

Is the remitter an individual? - If the remitter in Part I is an individual, select Yes, otherwise if it's a business or other entity select No. After that, enter the remitter information as shown in Part I.
- Select Type of Business ID for Remitter - If the remitter is a business, choose either CA Corp Number or EIN, whichever is checked in Part I, and verify the information is correct.

Is the seller an individual? - If the seller in Part II is an individual, select Yes, otherwise if it's a business or other entity select No.
- Select Type of Business ID for Seller - If the seller in Part II is a business, choose either CA Corp Number or EIN, whichever is checked in Part II, and enter the number.

CA Form 593 Property Transferred Information
- Property Transferred Address, ZIP Code, City State - Enter the information shown in Part II.
- Property Parcel Number - This should show in Part II next to the address.
- Property Ownership Percentage - Enter the percentage as shown in Part II.
- Escrow Number - Enter the number shown in Part VII line 31.
- Date of Transaction - Enter the date shown in Part VII line 32.
- Amount that should have been withheld from this Seller - Enter the amount shown in Part VII line 34, if any.
- Amount Withheld from this Seller - Enter the amount shown in Part VII line 37.
- CA Form 593 Preparer Information - Enter the remitter's name, title, escrow business name, and telephone number as shown on the bottom of the last page of Form 593 in the signature block.
- Select County of Principal Residence Type - Select the county as shown on the property address line in Part II.
- Select Type of Alternative Election - Select the filing type corresponding to the box checked in Part VI line 29.
- Select Type for Subject to Withholding- Select the type of transaction corresponding to the box checked in Part VII line 35.

Is the remitter an individual? - If the remitter in Part I is an individual, select Yes, otherwise if it's a business or other entity select No. After that, enter the remitter information as shown in Part I.
In the Real Estate Information Menu, two remaining menu lines may need completion:
- Fully Exempt From Withholding - Check any boxes corresponding to the box(es) checked in Part III.
- Partially exempt from withholding or No Exemptions - Check the box corresponding to the box checked in Part IV. (The "no exemptions" box is checked by default.)
