Reject Code: F990N-901-01
If Form 990-N, checkbox "Termination" is not checked, then the Tax Period End Date in the Return Header must match data in the e-file database.
IRS Reject Code F990N-901-01 indicates that the organization's fiscal or calendar year end date doesn't match what the IRS is expecting.
On the line "Additional Information" in the reject verbiage you will see the ending date in the return that isn't correct.
There are two ways to overcome this reject:
- Correct the date. Examine the organization's "Accounting Period Ending" date in its exempt status determination letter from the IRS. If you haven't been provided a copy of that letter, click here to find the organization in the IRS tax-exempt organization database and examine the determination letter.
- Indicate "Terminated". If the organization's exempt status has been terminated, indicate that in the return header. In the Form 990 or 990-EZ Other Information Menu, look for the menu line "Termination" and select it.
Reject Code: F990-902-01
'EIN' of the Filer in the Return Header must be established as an exempt organization filer in the e-File database.
There are several reasons why an organization's Form 990-N can get this reject:
- The IRS hasn't determined that this organization meets the requirements of IRC section 501(a). Perhaps it once met those requirements and doesn't now, or perhaps it's never been or is not yet recognized as a tax-exempt organization.
- The organization's EIN has not been entered correctly. Double-check your entry work.
- This organization files Form 990-PF rather than Form 990 or 990-EZ. Form 990-N is not an option for organizations required to file Form 990-PF.
