California provides a refundable tax credit for taxpayers who were former or current foster youth that meet the following requirements:
- They must qualify for the California Earned Income Credit (CalEITC).
- They are age 18 to 25 at the end of the tax year.
- They were in foster care at age 13 or older and placed through the California foster care system.
- They must satisfy the foster care verification requirement.
To claim this credit, Form 3514 form must be completed.
To complete Form 3514 in TaxSlayer ProWeb, from the California Return menu select:
- Credits
- CA Earned Income Credit & Foster Youth Tax Credit (Form 3514)
- Foster Youth Tax Credit
Consent to verify the status of the taxpayer's foster youth status must be granted, or a foster youth verification letter should be attached to the California return from the Foster Youth Tax Credit menu.
