California provides a refundable tax credit for taxpayers who were former or current foster youth that meet the following requirements:
- The taxpayer must qualify for the California Earned Income Credit (CalEITC).
- The taxpayer is age 18 to 25 at the end of the tax year.
- The taxpayer was in foster care at age 13 or older and placed through the CA foster care system.
- The taxpayer must satisfy the foster care verification requirement.
To claim this credit, Form 3514 form must be completed. To access this form in TaxSlayer Pro, from the California Return menu select:
- Total Payments
- CA Foster Youth Tax Credit
Consent to verify the status of the taxpayer's foster youth status must be granted, or a foster youth verification letter should be attached to the CA return from the Foster Youth Tax Credit menu.
