Utah provides a nonrefundable Military Survivor Benefits Credit for a surviving spouse or dependent child of a deceased military member if the benefits are paid due to:
- the death of a member of the armed forces or reserve while on active duty, or
- the death of a member of the reserve that results from a service-connected cause while performing inactive duty training.
To claim the Military Survivor Benefits Credit on the Utah individual income tax return in TaxSlayer ProWeb, from the Utah Return menu select:
- Credits
- Nonapportionable Nonrefundable Credits
- Nonapportionable Nonrefundable Credits
- Select the credit type - Select Military Survivor Benefits Credit
- Enter the credit amount - Enter the allowable credit (survivor benefit times 0.0465)
