Starting with tax year 2022, military retirement pay is exempt from taxable income in South Carolina.
To subtract military retirement income from the South Carolina individual tax return in TaxSlayer ProWeb, from the South Carolina Return menu select:
- Subtractions from Income
- Social Security and Retirement Deductions
- Enter your taxable qualified military retirement income as reported on Federal Form 1040, Line 5b - Enter the qualified military retirement income as a positive number.
Note: For tax years prior to 2022, please refer to the South Carolina instructions for the specific tax year in question for allowable retirement income exclusions.
