Starting with tax year 2023, military pension benefits are exempt from taxable income in Rhode Island.
To remove military retirement income from the Rhode Island individual tax return in TaxSlayer Pro, from the Rhode Island Tax Return Menu select:
- RI Taxable Income
- Modifications to Federal AGI
- Total Modifications Decreasing Federal AGI
- Modification for Taxpayers Receiving Military Service Pensions - Enter the qualified military pension as a positive number.
Note: For tax years prior to 2023, refer to the instructions for the specific tax year in question for the allowable exclusion.
