In TaxSlayer ProWeb, if you're en route to electronically filing an Illinois individual tax return you'll receive a validation error if certain information is missing in ERO Setup:
State Validation Errors
Illinois - Preparer firm EIN is required unless self-employment indicator is marked.
The state of Illinois requires that a tax return prepared by a paid preparer include in the return's signature block either the tax preparation firm's 9-digit federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) or indication that the preparer is self-employed. If both of these items are missing, the electronically filed return will reject, so to avoid the reject we notify you on-screen that at least one of these items needs to be entered.
To resolve this error, exit the tax return and enter into your ProWeb office configuration either or both of the firm's federal EIN, if it has one, or indication that the preparer associated with the Illinois return is self-employed.
To enter the firm's EIN, from the ProWeb Welcome page select:
- Configuration
- ERO Setup - Click the blue EDIT button for the EFIN, then enter the 9-digit EIN in the space provided.
To indicate that the preparer is self-employed, from the ProWeb Welcome page select:
- Configuration
- Preparer Setup - Click the blue EDIT button for the preparer and check the box next to Self Employed.
After entering either the EIN or checking the preparer's self-employed checkbox, you should be able to e-file the Illinois return.
