Pursuant to IRC Section 7216, if you offer your clients the ability to utilize the service of a bank to pay your preparation fees out of their tax refund, before preparing a client's tax return it's important to get the client's consent to use their tax information see if they qualify for this service.
In TaxSlayer Pro, the form they sign is entitled Consent to Use, and for your face-to-face clients you can either print this form for each client at the start of preparing their return, or you can have a stack of consent forms ready to be signed.
Configuration
Before you can print the Consent to Use form you must have a bank indicated in the Bank Setup Menu and you must have the program configured to offer to print the consent form when a return is being started.
To configure TaxSlayer Pro to offer printing the Consent to Use form when starting a new return, from the Quick Menu select:
- Configuration
- Printer / Copies Setup
- Main Menu 7216 Question Default - Select this, then select either Default Answer to NO or Default Answer to YES. Depending on which you choose, the Yes or No button will be highlighted when you're asked at the start of a return about whether or not to print the consent.
Printing
To print one or more Consent to Use forms, from the Quick Menu of TaxSlayer Pro:
- Select Start New Return.
- When asked if you'd like to print the Consent to Use form, select YES.
- When the PDF copy of the form opens, select to print it and enter the number of copies you'd like to print.
