Maryland requires reporting of any contributions to a mandatory state retirement system. These contributions are tax deferred for federal purposes, but not for state tax purposes. The amount will be stated separately in box 14 of Form W-2.
To enter the Maryland state pickup amount in the individual tax return in TaxSlayer Pro, from Main Menu of the tax return (Form 1040) select;
- Income
- Wages, Salaries, Tips, (W-2) - Enter a new W-2 or edit an existing one. Enter all the federal information as well as the Maryland information. You should be prompted to enter the state pick-up amount, but if not select Box 14 and answer Yes to entering the MD State Pick-up Amount.
