For New York individual tax filers, Form IT-370, Application for Automatic Six-Month Extension of Time to File for Individuals, filed by April 15 will extend the due date to October 15. The state of New York will not accept a copy of federal Form 4868 in place of Form IT-370.
To complete New York Form IT-370 in TaxSlayer ProWeb, from the New York Return menu select:
- Miscellaneous Forms
- Non E-Fileable Forms
- NY IT-370 Extension Form
To indicate in the tax return that a payment was made with the extension, from the New York Return menu select:
- Payments
- Enter the Payment made with your Extension
The New York extension cannot be electronically filed in ProWeb. The federal extension may be sent electronically, however the state extension will have to be mailed. See here for the current year's mailing addresses.
