Georgia allows an automatic six-month extension if the taxpayer receives a federal extension. Enclose federal Form 4868 with the Georgia return when filed. If a federal extension is not needed, use Form IT 303, Application for Extension of Time for Filing State Income Tax Returns, to request an extension of up to six months. Use Form IT-560, Extension Payment Voucher, to pay any balance due.

Note: Georgia does not support electronic filing for the state extension or state extension payment. The federal extension and extension payment may be sent electronically, however the state will have to be mailed.
