If a taxpayer contributes to an Iowa 529 college savings plan, a portion of the contribution can be subtracted from income on the Iowa state tax return. For the 2024 tax year, contributions up to $5,800 per year, per beneficiary are eligible for an Iowa state income tax deduction.
To enter the deductible portion of the contributions in TaxSlayer ProWeb, from the Iowa Return menu select:
- Subtractions from Income
- Other Subtractions from Federal Taxable Income
- Enter Amount
- Adjustment Type - Select from dropdown menu College Savings Iowa.
