Beginning in 2023, the state of Washington is providing the Working Families Tax Credit to residents of Washington who meet the following eligibility criteria for the tax year they're claiming the credit:
- Have an SSN or valid ITIN.
- Lived in Washington a minimum of 183 days.
- Are at least age 25 and under age 65 -or- have a qualifying child (as that term is defined for federal EITC purposes).
- Filed a federal tax return the year before claiming credit.
- Eligible to claim the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on federal tax return for the current year.
- For taxpayers with a valid ITIN, they otherwise meet the requirements for the EITC.
The Working Families Tax Credit functions as a refundable credit and is paid by the state directly to the taxpayer. The taxpayer applies for the credit using Form 14 0001, Working Families Tax Credit Application. This form can be completed and e-filed along with their federal tax return in TaxSlayer Pro, or it can be completed and filed online at the Working Families Tax Credit website here.
Note that in order to be able to e-file the credit application along with the federal tax return the primary taxpayer must have an e-mail address. Additionally, as the form is an application for the credit, no credit calculates on the form itself.
