If you are a TaxSlayer Pro Premium subscriber, you and your non-business clients are able to exchange documents via the Customer Portal.
There are several important points to bear in mind regarding the Customer Portal:
- The customer portal is limited to individual clients filing Form 1040 or 1040-NR.
- The customer portal is available for the current tax year's return only, not prior years.
- While your client can send you files in a variety of formats, such as PDF or images, you are limited to sending them only the tax return and, if applicable, related documents such as bank and ancillary product applications. Other documents you create for them, such as the engagement letter or the organizer, cannot be sent to them via the portal.
- If a client uses the TaxesToGo mobile app to send you their info, you must communicate with them and send the return for signature via the app. They cannot use the portal.
The first step in the process of creating the portal is to send your client an invitation link to create the portal. You can send the link to either a current year client whose return you have already begun or to a prior year client before they have engaged your services this year. Your client will then follow the link to create the portal, after which they can send you the documents you need to prepare their tax return.
Before sending your client a Customer Portal invitation link, be sure their social security number, e-mail address, mobile number, and last name are correct in their tax return. They will encounter a problem setting up the portal if any of these items are different than what they are expecting.
To send a Customer Portal invitation to a client in TaxSlayer Pro, follow these steps:
- Click the Paper Cut icon in the tool bar at the top of the program.
- In the left menu, click Customer Portal.
- Click Manage Portals.
- If you've already started their tax return in the current year, click Current Year Clients. If you haven't started their return yet, you can send them a portal link based on the info in their prior year tax return by clicking Prior Year Clients.
- Locate the client in the list and click the Create button:
- You have the option of sending the invitation link to their mobile number by text message or to their e-mail:
Click the button next to the option you'd like to use, then click OK.
After the link has been sent, the "Create" button will change to "Resend Portal Link":
You can resend the link if needed using the other method.
