A taxpayer can use any federal extension provision to receive an extension from Wisconsin, even if the federal return is filed by April 18. Attach one of the following to the Wisconsin return:
- A copy of the federal Form 4868.
- A statement indicating which federal extension provision applies for Wisconsin (for example, the federal automatic 6-month extension).
Use Form 1-ES, Wisconsin Estimated Tax Voucher, to make any payments, even if the taxpayer will e-file.
To access Wisconsin Form 1-ES, from the main menu of the Wisconsin individual tax return select:
- Payments and Refundable Credits
- WI Estimates - Enter the amount of the extension payment.
The estimated payment vouchers can be printed from the estimates menu by selecting Print Estimate Coupons, or they can be printed in the View Results menu from federal return.
