An automatic six-month extension to October 15 that is obtained for the federal tax return is recognized for North Dakota, including the automatic two-month extension allowed for being outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico on April 15. There is no separate state automatic extension form to file. When filing Form ND-1, fill in the circle next to Extension. North Dakota requested extension. Taxpayers that do not obtain an automatic federal extension may apply for a North Dakota extension by completing and filing Form 101, Application for Extension of Time to File a North Dakota Tax Return.
