For the state of Montana, individual taxpayers have an automatic extension of six months. The extension of time to file is not an extension to pay. Taxpayers may be subject to penalties and interest paying any tax due after the original due date or filing the return after the extended due date.
Taxpayers serving in or in support of the U.S. Armed Forces serving in a designated combat zone or contingency operation have the same extension of time to file the Montana tax return as the federal tax return. Extension payments may be made with Form IT or electronically by visiting Montana TransAction Portal.
To enter the Montana Extension Payment in TaxSlayer Pro, from the main menu of the Montana state return select:
- Total Payments
- Payment Made With Extension
