If the taxpayer has a balance due and would like to have the amount automatically debited from their checking or savings account, from the Tax Return Summary page, select:
- E-FIle
- On the Return Details Menu, select E-file: Direct Debit from the dropdown menu in the Federal Return section. If the taxpayer has an amount due on their state return, select E-File: Direct Debit in the State return section. Select Continue until you arrive at the Bank Account Menu.
- Select Checking or Savings
- Enter the name of the bank, Routing Number, Bank Account Number, Amount of Tax Payment, Requested Payment Date, and Day Time Phone Number.
- Requested Payment Date - After the due date of the return, you must enter the current date or the return will be rejected by the IRS.
