If the taxpayer has a balance due and would like to have the amount automatically debited from their checking or savings account, from the Tax Return Summary page select:
- E-File
- In the Return Details menu, select E-file: Direct Debit from the dropdown menu in the Federal Return section. If the taxpayer has an amount due on their state return, select E-File: Direct Debit in the State return section.
- Select Continue until you arrive at the Bank Account menu.
- Bank Account Type - Select Checking or Savings.
- Bank Name - Enter the name of the bank
- Routing Number - Enter the 9-digit routing number twice.
- Bank Account Number - Enter the account number twice.
- Amount of tax payment - Enter the amount to be debited.
- Requested Payment Date - Enter the requested payment date, no later than the due date of the return. (After the due date of the return, you must enter the current date or the return will be rejected by the IRS.)
