After entering a 1099-DIV in TaxSlayer Pro, you may receive the following error message:
Sum of Nominee Dividends and Decedent Dividends
Must be Less than or Equal to Total Dividends.
At the bottom of the 1099-DIV window are two entry fields for Nominee Dividends and Decedent Dividends.
The amount of the dividend paid is entered in the Nominee Dividends field if the taxpayer is a nominee, i.e., the 1099-DIV actually belongs to one or more other taxpayers.
The amount of the dividend paid is entered in the Decedent Dividends field if the taxpayer is deceased and didn't constructively receive the dividend before their death, i.e., they died between the time the dividend was declared and the time they received it, e.g., in the mail.
The amount of the dividend entered in either of these fields cannot be more than the amount in Box 1a; it must be equal to or less than the amount in Box 1a.
