The deadline for submitting timely 2021 individual income tax returns and extensions and extensions is Monday, April 18, 2022. Returns and extensions will be considered timely filed if they are postmarked by April 18 or electronically filed by 11:59 P.M. on April 18. To ensure that all transmissions are considered timely filed, please have all returns and extensions transmitted to TaxSlayer Pro no later than 11:59 P.M. your local time on Monday, April 18. We advise finalizing and transmitting all returns and extensions well before the midnight deadline.
TaxSlayer Pro Support will be open from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Eastern, on Saturday, April 16, closed on Sunday, April 17 and will be open 9 A.M. to 10 P.M Eastern on Monday, April 18. TaxSlayer Pro Support will resume regular off-season support hours, 9 A.M. to 5 P.M Eastern Monday through Friday, starting Tuesday, April 19.
If you are filing an extension (Form 4868), the automatic extension extends the deadline for filing the return until October 17, 2022. It does not extend the payment deadline. To include an electronic payment with the extension, fill out the Form 4868 Electronic Payment information in the Form 4868 Extension Menu.
A 5-day perfection period applies to any electronically filed individual tax return or extension that was filed and rejected by the filing deadline. The IRS considers returns and extensions that are re-transmitted electronically and accepted within 5 calendar days of the date a return was rejected as timely filed. All corrected individual returns and extensions must be transmitted no later than 11:59 P.M. your local time on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
Returns Not Accepted Reports
We highly recommend running a Returns Not Accepted Report, a State Returns Not Accepted Report and an Extensions Not Accepted Report before the filing deadline to ensure all returns and extensions have been transmitted and accepted.
To run and print these reports on the transmitting computer, from the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
9 – Reports
5 – Return/States/Extensions Not Accepted
1 – Returns Not Accepted Report
3 – State Returns Not Accepted Report
6 – Print the Extensions Report
To determine why a return or extension is listed on the report, look at the Acceptance Code Column (A/R or Acc Code depending on the report) and the Transmission Date Column (Tran Date). If there is an R in the Acceptance Code column, the return/extension has been rejected. Review your acknowledgements report for the reject code or use Client Status to determine why the return/extension was rejected.
If a return does not have a code in the Acceptance column, look at the Transmission Date column. If there is not a date listed, this return/extension has not yet been transmitted. You will need to transmit the return/extension.
Finally, before submitting any returns or extensions, please make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest Federal and State Updates.
