Desktop: State Amended Return Information

Note: TaxSlayer ProWeb doesn't support e-filing state amended returns.

Important caveats about state amended returns:

• State amended returns are not linked to the federal amended return when the federal return is electronically filed. If a state amended return is e-fileable, you must send it unlinked, i.e., "state only".
• If you have prepared both federal and amended state returns, e-file the federal amended return first and do not e-file the state amended return until the federal acceptance has been received. (State returns pass through the IRS, so if you e-file the state amended return before the federal acceptance has been received, the IRS will treat the transmission as a duplicate of the previous transmission and will discard it.)
• If a state amended return has the three-column format similar to the federal amended return, it is important to coordinate the process of pulling the original and correct columns in both the federal and state returns. Be sure to read the instructional KB articles for these states to ensure the state amended return is accurately prepared.
