For each child on Schedule EIC (Form 1040), 'QualifyingChildSSN' and 'ChildBirthYr' must match that in the e-File database.
Reject code SEIC-F1040-535-04 indicates a mismatch between a dependent’s SSN and year of birth. The IRS uses data provided by the Social Security Administration to verify the SSN and year of birth. This reject is triggered when the IRS has a year of birth in their database for the dependent that makes them ineligible for the credit (usually above the age limit). The reject message will indicate the dependent in question, so if the message says, “Additional Information: XXX-XX-1234”, the dependent whose SSN ends in 1234 is the one triggering the reject.
Correcting Reject Code R0000-504-02
First, verify the dependent’s SSN and year of birth in the return with the taxpayer's documentation. If the data entered on the return is incorrect, make the correction and retransmit the return.
Secondly, if you have verified the information and the return is still being rejected, advise the taxpayer to contact the SSA to verify the dependent’s SSN and year of birth. They can call the SSA at 800.772.1213 or check here for a local SSA office that can assist.
Note that if a correction is required in the SSA and/or IRS records it may take the SSA up to 10 days to notify the IRS after they have updated their files. Afterward, an electronic return can be resubmitted, but there is no way to determine the time frame in which all this will occur.
If you're certain the information in the return is correct you can paper file the return, and you will want to include documentation verifying the dependent information in the return is correct.
