In TaxSlayer Pro, when attempting to e-mail a copy of a client's return via Paper Cut, if sending the e-mail is unsuccessful there are several possible error messages you could see.
1. Error related to e-mail configuration
There was an error sending your email. Please try and send
the email again.
If the problem continues please contact technical support.
Message: Email method is not configured properly. Please
verify that an appropriate email method has been configured.
As the error indicates, there is an error in the e-mail configuration. To fix the error, do the following steps:
1. Close Paper Cut.
2. From the Quick Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Configuration
- Configure Premium Options
- E-Mail Configuration Menu
3. Select E-Mail Method. Select "Indirect through TaxSlayer Pro" unless you know your own e-mail settings and wish to use SMTP. See the KB article here for more information about how to set up SMTP.
4. Select Your Email Address and enter your e-mail address. Before leaving the menu, reexamine it for accuracy.
Once e-mail has been configured, reopen Paper Cut and try resending the message again.
2. Error related to the password
There was an error sending your email. Please try and send
the email again.
If the problem continues please contact technical support.
Message: Password must be at least 8 characters and must
contain an upper case letter, a lower case letter, a digit, and a
special character (!@%$).
The password you create must meet certain minimum complexity requirements. As the error message indicates, the password didn't meet the complexity requirements. Try again, taking care to meet the complexity requirements. Note that for the special character(s), be sure to select only from among the four specified in the parentheses.
3. Error related to the PDF document
There was an error sending your email. Please try and send
the email again.
If the problem continues please contact technical support.
Message: The process cannot access the file
[filename].pdf because it is being
used by another process.
You will receive this error if you attempt to send a PDF document that is also open in your PDF viewer (typically Acrobat Reader). Your PDF viewer has a "lock" on the document, so until that lock is released you won't be able to e-mail the document.
The solution is to close it in the program you're using to view the PDF. After closing it, try again emailing the document in Paper Cut.
The lock on the document may not immediately go away and you may still receive the error when attempting again to e-mail it, so you may have to close and reopen Paper Cut.
4. Error related to the file attachment name
There was an error sending your email. Please try and send
the email again.
If the problem continues please contact technical support.
In the e-mail composition window, if the name entered in the ZIP File Name field includes either a colon : or a double quote ", you will receive this error. To eliminate the error, only include letters, numbers, and spaces in the zip file name.
5. Error related to the network
There was an error sending your email. Please try and send
the email again.
If the problem continues please contact technical support.
Message: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal
Server Error.
