In TaxSlayer ProWeb, you have the ability to use our Return Review process to review and double-check returns before they are marked complete and electronically filed. A tax return review process can help catch errors and mistakes as well as returns that have been inappropriately prepared. In an office with multiple preparers with varying degrees of experience, this system can help ensure the accuracy of the returns your office prepares.
This process can be used for returns on an as-needed basis, or the office can be setup so certain preparers must mark returns for review before they can be marked complete.
Setting up the Review Return Process
If you would like to to only use this feature on an as-needed basis, there is no setup required in Configuration. When you get to the end of a tax return, you will be able to mark it for review.
If you would like to require preparers to use the Return Review process, from the Welcome Page of your tax office, select:
- Security Templates
- Locate the Security Template for your preparer and click Edit, or create a new Security Template if one does not yet exist
If you do not have a Security Template created yet and would like further guidance on Security Templates in general, please see our article about Setting up Security Templates.
- Ensure the checkbox next to Do not Force Return Review is uncheck:
- Click Continue when you have finished making adjustments to the Security Template
- If you created a new template, you will then need to Assign it to the preparers who require it
Review Return Process
For preparers who are using the Return Review process, before a return is marked complete, it will follow the workflow below:
First, the preparer will finish the return and will mark it Ready For Review on the Submission Page:
Once it has been marked Ready For Review, the preparer will then Save and Exit the return.
Next, the designated Reviewer will see that there are returns in queue waiting to be reviewed:
The Reviewer will click Select and will then see a list of returns in queue to be reviewed. From inside the Review Returns page, the Reviewer will find the return they wish to review and click Select to open the return. The Reviewer will continue through the return and check each of the items within.
Once the Reviewer has completely reviewed the return, they will navigate to the Submission Page to either Approve or Fail the return's review:
If the review is Approved, the return can then be marked Is Complete and electronically filed:
If the review is Failed, the Reviewer will then need to explain why the review has failed:
After the reason for the failed review is entered, the Reviewer will Save and Close the return. Doing this will list the return in the client list with the status Failed. The original preparer must then go into the return and make the necessary changes that were listed. When the changes have been made, the preparer will then mark the return Ready For Review again on the Submission Page. This process will continue until the Return Review has been Approved.
