In TaxSlayer ProWeb, you have the ability to use our Return Review process to review and double-check returns before they are marked complete and electronically filed. A tax return review process can help catch errors and omissions as well as returns that have been inappropriately prepared. In an office with multiple preparers with varying degrees of experience, this system can help ensure the accuracy of the returns your office prepares and files.
Return Review can be used for returns on an as-needed basis, or the office can be set up so certain preparers must mark returns for review before they can be marked complete.
Setting up the Review Return Process
If you would like to to only use this feature on an as-needed basis, there is no setup required in Configuration. When you get to the end of a tax return, you will be able to mark it for review.
Requiring Return Review
If you would like to require a preparer to use the Return Review process, from the Welcome Page of your tax office select:
- Configuration
-
Roles and Permissions - Locate the Role for assigned to the preparer and click Edit, or create a new Role if one does not yet exist.
If you do not have a Role created yet and would like further guidance on Roles and Permissions in general, see here for more information. - Ensure the check box next to Do not Force Return Review is unchecked:
- When finished, click Continue.
If you created a new role, be sure to assign it to the preparers who require it.
The Return Review Process
For preparers who are using the Return Review process, before a return is marked complete it will follow the workflow below:
First, the preparer will finish the return and will mark it Ready For Review on the Submission Page:
Once it has been marked Ready For Review, the preparer will then Save and Exit the return.
When one or more returns are waiting to be reviewed, you'll see this indicated on the Welcome page:
Click Select to see the returns queued to be reviewed, then select a return to review it.
When a return has finished being reviewed, navigate to the Submission Page and click the appropriate button to either Approve or Fail the review:
If the review is Approved, the return can then be marked Is Complete and electronically filed:
If the review is Failed, you can enter an explanation why, including the next steps to be taken:
After entering the explanation, click Save and Close. In the client list the return's status will show Failed. The original preparer will then need to correct the return, and once again mark it ready for review on the Submission Page. This process will continue until the Return Review has been approved.
