TaxSlayer ProWeb constantly runs a series of checks on the return you are preparing, looking for inconsistencies, highlighting possible oversights, and providing important reminders. The results of these checks are presented to you as Diagnostic Warnings, Diagnostic Errors, or State Validation Errors.
Diagnostic Warning
A diagnostic warning is shown in yellow. Its purpose is to keep you on your toes by presenting potential oversights and important reminders.
Evaluate each warning to determine whether or not any corrective action is needed. To review a Diagnostic Warning, select VIEW next to the item listed. This will take you directly to the relevant section of the return.
A diagnostic warning doesn't prevent the return from being electronically filed, nor can it be dismissed if you deem it not relevant.
Diagnostic Error
A diagnostic error is shown in red and indicates a problem that must be fixed.
If the return were to be electronically filed as it is, it would reject, so the diagnostic error prevents the return from being electronically filed.
To correct a Diagnostic Error, select VIEW next to the item listed. This will take you directly to the relevant section of the return. If the error cannot be fixed, the return will have to be paper filed.
State Validation Error
A state validation error indicates a problem with the state return that, similar to a diagnostic error, prevents the state return from being electronically filed.
The federal return can still be electronically filed, as well as any other state return that doesn't have a diagnostic error.
To correct a state validation error, select Make Changes at the bottom of the page. This will take you to the States menu of the return so you can open the state return and make the necessary changes.
