The Database Management section of the program is intended to help you track numerous activities pertaining to your clients.
An activity is any venue where your business is promoted, whether directly or indirectly.
Activities include advertising through mailings, radio or television commercials, a yellow page listing, website banner ads, etc. An activity can also include where you know a client from, such as a house of worship or via other business contacts.
When preparing a client's return, you can ask them how they know about your company and include this information in their return. At the end of tax season you can run a report to see which activities brought in the most clients and which ones brought in the least. This information can assist you in your marketing and networking decisions for the next tax season.
To set up Database Management, from the main menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Configuration
- Advanced Configuration (Macros)
- Database Management
- Select Edit Database Management Activities, then select the first blank activity and click OK.
- Enter a description of the activity (for example, newspaper).
- Continue entering all of the activities that you wish to track.
Assigning an activity to a return
To assign an activity to a tax return, when in the return click the Tools Menu in the TaxSlayer Pro toolbar at the top of the screen, then click Database Management. Click the checkbox next to the activities with which you wish to associate this return.
Printing a report of activities
The Database Management Activity Report shows the results of the information collected during the tax season. To access this report, from the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro, select:
- Configuration
- Advanced Configuration (Macros)
- Database Management
- Database Management Activity Report
You can either print the report or create mailing labels based on the collected information. You also have the option to create a CSV file to export the data.
