To access settings that affect the way certain information is displayed in TaxSlayer Pro, from the Quick Menu select:
- Configuration
- Advanced Configuration (Macros)
- Display Settings
Edit Main Menu Size (2019 and later) - If you are displaying the Client List along with the Quick Menu, select this line to choose how many client lines to display, with Large covering the entire available space below the toolbar at the top of the screen.
Display Client list on Main Menu (2019 and later) - If set to YES, the Client List will display along with the Quick Menu, and you can start a new return by entering the SSN at the top of the Client List.
Note: If you are offering bank products to your clients and want to print the Consent To Use form before starting the return, select Start New Return from the Quick Menu on the right side.
Mask SSNs in Lists (2020 and later) - If set to YES, the first five numbers of the SSN will be masked in any list. (Prior to 2020 this option was a checkbox at the bottom left of the Client List.)
Default Cursor Focus on Main Menu Client List (2020 and later) - When returning to the Client List, the cursor can either be positioned in the SSN field to begin a new return or in the "Enter Option" field at the bottom of the Quick Menu. Select from either of these two choices.
Ask to Exit Main Menu (2019 and later) - This option is useful if you use the keyboard to navigate through the program rather than the mouse. If set to YES, when you press Enter at the Quick Menu, you will be prompted to confirm that you really want to exit the program. (Note: If you click the red X at the top right corner of the program window when you are at the Quick Menu, you are not prompted for confirmation.)
Edit Clients 1040 List
- Start Return Using Client List: If set to YES, when you select Start New Return from the Quick Menu a list of all the clients that have been started and/or completed will appear. This may not be desirable if your clients can observe your monitor's display. If set to NO, a window to enter the client's SSN will display instead. (At this point, you can also see the Client List by pressing the F8 function key on your keyboard.)
- Display Client List when Exiting a Return (2019 and later) - If set to NO, after exiting a return you will be returned to the Quick Menu. If set to YES, where you are taken after exiting a return depends on the previous setting:
- If Start Return Using Client List is set to YES, after exiting a return you will return to the Client List ready to start a new return (and thus you won't be warned about printing the section 7216 consent form).
- If Start Return Using Client List is set to NO, after exiting a return you will return to the window to enter the next client's SSN (and thus you won't be warned about printing the section 7216 consent form).
Note that with either of the above settings, because you haven't returned to the Quick Menu you won't be warned about printing the section 7216 consent form. If you desire for everyone to receive that warning when starting a new return, set displaying the Client List when exiting a return to YES.
- Select Columns to Display on Client List: Choose the columns that you want displayed in the Client List. By default, all columns are displayed. Uncheck a column's check box to hide the column.
- Reset Client List: You can change the left-to-right order of the columns in the Client List as desired. To return the order to the default order, click this line.
Edit Business Return List
- Select Columns to Display on Client List: Choose the columns that you want displayed in the Business Client List. By default, all columns are displayed. Uncheck a column's check box to hide the column.
- Reset Client List: You can change the left-to-right order of the columns in the business Client List as desired. To return the order to the default order, click this line.
Sort Schedule B Entries by Name - If set to YES, Schedule B entries will be sorted by the Payer's Name.
Sort Depreciation by Date - If set to YES, Depreciation will be sorted by the date placed in service.
Display Re-Do State Message - If set to YES, after making a change to the Federal return, you will be warned once that you need to reopen the state return, even if the change has no effect on the state return. If you do not want to see the warning message, set this option to NO.
Display 10 Most Recent Returns - If set to YES, when you are at the Quick Menu the 10 most recently opened returns will appear in the toolbar at the top of the screen under the File menu. This is a useful shortcut to quickly get to the returns you are currently working on.
Block Support Alert Message - obsolete
Background Being Used - If you would like to change the background color being used throughout the program, choose from the list of colors. This feature is useful if you have more than one year of TaxSlayer Pro open at a time. Giving each year a different background color helps avoid working on a return in the wrong year.
Use Generic Main Menu (2018 and prior) - Removes the TaxSlayer Pro name from the Quick Menu.
Option to Print Federal Forms in Spanish - If set to YES, you will have the option to print Federal forms in Spanish. (Note that not all Federal forms have a Spanish language counterpart to the English version.)
Activate Tax Book Subscription (2021 and prior) - TaxSlayer Pro partners with The Tax Book, giving you a special price and integrating access into TaxSlayer Pro by clicking an icon the toolbar at the top of the screen. If you have purchased a subscription, click here to activate it.
Go To Current Client In Client Status When In Return - If set to TRUE, upon clicking the Client Status icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen, the Client Status window will open showing the status for the client whose return you are working on. If set to FALSE, the Client Status window will open blank and you will select the client to view.
