If the pages of a return are printing oriented in landscape rather than portrait, review the orientation in printer preferences in Windows. The following steps explain how to find and change this setting for most printers.
- In Windows, open the Control Panel
- Select View devices and printers or Printers and Faxes or Printers & Scanners (depending on the Windows version).
- Select the printer specified in the program for printing returns.
- Select Printing Preferences – Locate the Orientation or Layout option. You may have to look through the different tabs to find the Landscape / Portrait orientation setting. If you are having trouble finding item, refer to the printer's instruction manual to help locate this setting.
- Select Portrait.
- Select OK.
If setting Portrait as above doesn't fix the problem, check the printer itself to see if it has settings that you can change, looking for a setting that controls the orientation.
Note: A handful of federal forms, notably Schedules K-2 and K-3, and some state forms print in landscape orientation by design.
