The IRS generally acknowledges returns within 10-15 minutes, but it reserves the right to wait 48 hours before giving an acknowledgement for the return. TaxSlayer Pro is configured by default to automatically receive acknowledgements when you transmit returns.
To receive and print individual acknowledgements
From the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- E-file
- Receive Acknowledgements Only
- When the Connection Window appears, select Connect.
- After Acknowledgements are retrieved and you are prompted, select Exit.
- You will receive a message indicating that you have Reports To Print.
- Print Reports - Items with arrows (>>) beside them should be selected and printed. The IRS and State Acknowledgment report will show either acceptance or rejection if the return was rejected along with an explanation of the rejection.
To receive and print business acknowledgements
From the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Business
- Electronic Filing Menu
- Receive Acknowledgements
- When the Connection Window appears, select Connect.
- After Acknowledgements are retrieved and you are prompted, select Exit.
- You will receive a message indicating that you have Reports To Print.
- Print Reports - Items with arrows (>>) beside them should be selected and printed. The IRS and State Acknowledgment report will show either acceptance or rejection if the return was rejected along with an explanation of the rejection.
Experiencing Connection Issues?
There are several things that may be preventing your computer from connecting to the TaxSlayer Pro server to receive acknowledgements. Listed below are the most common issues.
- Verify that your Internet connection is working by opening your web browser and going to http://www.irs.gov. If you cannot connect to the website, there is likely a problem with your Internet connection, either within your own network or with your internet service provider.
- A recent windows and/or security software update may have blocked the TaxSlayer Pro program from connecting to the Internet, preventing you from receiving acknowledgements.

To reprint individual acknowledgements
From the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- E-file
- Print Reports
- Additional/Old Reports
- Select the acknowledgements or the report that you wish to reprint. Depending on the acknowledgements or the report that you select, you may be prompted to enter a specific date for the information that you are requesting.
To reprint business acknowledgements
From the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Business
- Electronic Filing Menu
- Print Reports
- Additional/Old Reports
- Select the acknowledgements that you wish to reprint. Depending on the acknowledgements that you select, you may be prompted to enter a specific date for the information that you are requesting.
