In TaxSlayer ProWeb, if you're en route to electronically filing an Illinois individual tax return you'll receive a validation error if certain information is missing in ERO Setup:
State Validation Errors
Illinois - Preparer firm EIN is required unless self-employment indicator is marked.
The state of Illinois requires that a tax return prepared by a paid preparer include in the return's signature block either the tax preparation firm's 9-digit federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) or indication that the preparer is self-employed. If both of these items are missing, the electronically filed return will reject, so to avoid the reject we notify you on-screen that at least one of these items needs to be entered.
To resolve this error, exit the return, then from the ProWeb Welcome page select:
- Configuration
- ERO Setup - Click the blue EDIT button for your EFIN.
- If you have a 9-digit EIN, enter it in the space provided.
- If you are self-employed, check that check box.
After entering either the EIN or checking the self-employed checkbox, you should be able to e-file the return.
