Reject Code: F1040-448
Form 8862 must be present in the return with American Opportunity Tax Credit Claimed Indicator checked. The e-File database indicates the taxpayer must file Form 8862 to claim American Opportunity Tax Credit after disallowance.
Reject code F1040-448 occurs when a return containing the American Opportunity Tax Credit is being filed electronically and the IRS e-file database indicates that the taxpayer was disallowed this credit in a prior year. In order to claim the credit and correct the reject, IRS Form 8862 must be filled out and submitted with the return.
