Reject Code: F7004-904-01
Form 7004, the tax year ending date ('TaxPeriodEndDt' specified in the Return Header) must match the data in the e-file database unless one of the checkboxes in Line 5b - "Initial Return", "Final Return" or "Consolidated return to be filed" is checked.
Reject code F7004-904-01 occurs when the date entered for the business Tax Year End Date does not match IRS records. This reject is common for newly formed businesses. If this is the first year the business is filing a return, the business will likely be based on a calendar year for tax purposes. The beginning date should be entered as the official start date of the business and the end date should be 12-31-20XX. The return should also be marked as an Initial Return to clarify why the return is covering less than a full year.
If this is not the first year the business is filing a return, you will need to verify with the business if they operate on a fiscal year or a calendar year.
Additionally, beginning and ending dates are only entered if the business operates on a fiscal year. If the dates entered are incorrect, correct them and resubmit the return. If the dates entered are correct, you will need to contact the IRS Business Assistance line at 800-829-4933 to find out why there is a discrepancy and get it resolved.
