Schedule B (Form 1040), Interest and Ordinary Dividends is used for a U.S. citizen and resident alien when filing Form 1040. It's not used with Form 1040-NR.
There are several places in Form 1040-NR where interest and dividends are reported:
- Interest and dividends that are effectively connected with U.S. trade or business are reported on the face of the 1040-NR on lines 2 and 3.
- Interest and dividends that are not effectively connected with U.S. trade or business are reported on Schedule NEC (Form 1040-NR).
If the taxpayer has received interest and dividends related to foreign financial assets, they may also need to file Form 8938, Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets. (Form 8938 is not supported in TaxSlayer ProWeb prior to 2022.)
