A Form 990 or 990-EZ may receive a validation error related to the percentage of public support in Schedule A Part II Section C Line 15, which is a reference to the prior year's percentage in the same form on the preceding Line 14. Here is an example of the validation error:
The 'http://www.irs.gov/efile:PublicSupportPY170Pct' element is invalid - The value '0.0000098084' is invalid according to its datatype 'http://www.irs.gov/efile:RatioType' - The TotalDigits constraint failed.
To fix the error in Form 990 or 990-EZ, from the Main Menu of the tax return select:
- Additional Forms and Schedules
- Schedule A - Supplementary Information
- Part II
- Computation of Public Support Percentage
- Public Support Percentage from 20xx - select the line and enter 0.001 (even if the line appears to already indicate that).
