If a taxpayer contributes to an Indiana College Choice 529 Education Savings Plan, a portion of the contribution can be taken as a credit on the Indiana return.
Contributions eligible for the credit are limited to 20% on up to $5,000 per year, for those filing a single return; and 20% on up to $5,000 per year, for those filling a joint return. MFS filers can claim a maximum credit up to $500 of each spouse’s own contribution or 20% of each spouse’s own contribution, whichever
is less.
To enter the deductible portion of the contributions that were made in the Desktop program, from the main menu of the Indiana return, select:
- Total Credits
- Offset Credits
- Other Credits
- Education Savings Plan Credit (Schedule IN-529) - Enter the deductible amount of the contribution that the taxpayer made to the plan. For married filing joint filers, combine the total contributions made by each spouse.
