Schedule LEP can be filed with a taxpayer's tax return to state a preference to receive written communications from the IRS in an alternative language when communications in the language are available. IRS communications includes formal letters and notices, as well as general correspondence, tax forms, instructions or publications. Not all communications are available in every language on Schedule LEP.
Joint Returns - If the filing status on a return is Married Filing Joint, file a separate Schedule LEP with the tax return for each spouse who prefers an alternative language. If both spouses would prefer to receive written communications in an alternative language other than English, file a separate form for each spouse, even if both spouses prefer the same alternative language.
To access Schedule LEP in the program, from the main menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Personal Information
- Other Categories
- Request for Change in Language Preference (Sch LEP) - Select the language preference for the taxpayer and for the spouse (if applicable).
To remove Schedule LEP from a return, select Remove Language Preference from the Language Preference selection menu.
Note: Schedule LEP is available to be filed with tax returns for tax years 2020 forward. It cannot be filed with previous tax year returns.
