Mapping a Network Drive
Mapping a network drive assigns a drive letter to a particular shared folder on your local network. This linkage makes it possible for TaxSlayer Pro Workstations to see the PC designated as the File Server.
These steps assume TaxSlayer Pro has been installed on the File Server and the TaxSlayer folder has been shared to the network. See here for steps on how to do that.
- In Windows, right-click the Windows icon (typically in the lower left corner of the screen) and select File Explorer.
- Right-click This PC (or Computer or My Computer, depending on the Windows version) on the left hand side of the File Explorer and select Map Network Drive.
- Select an unused drive letter. We recommend using N: if it is available.
- In the Folder text box, type the network share path name. This name consists of two backslashes, followed by the File Server's Windows computer name (the "Device ID"), followed by a slash, then the TaxSlayer Pro folder name. (\\servername\TaxSlayer). If you are unsure of the share location, select Browse to search for the shared folder. After selecting it, select OK to close the Browse For Folder dialog box.
- Select the Reconnect at sign-in check box.
- If you are not an administrator, you will need to select the Connect Using Different Credentials check box. Then ask an administrator on your network to enter their username and password in the Windows Security dialog box that appears. Select OK to close the "Connect As" dialog box.
- Select Finish to map the network drive.
