If the laptop is not normally connected to your network, you can use the Backup and Recall feature from the Utilities Menu to move completed returns to the transmitting computer to be sent to the IRS.
If the laptop is normally connected to your network, the following steps must be completed first before removing the laptop or it could lock you out of the program when you try to power on the laptop and access the program. From the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Configuration
- System and Network Configuration
- Are you using a Network? - Change this answer to NO
- Electronic Drive - Change this to C (or the drive where TaxSlayer Pro is installed)
- Now you can remove the laptop from the network and take the laptop off site or Backup/Recall tax returns from the Main Computer if you need to bring them with you.
When you return to the office, connect the laptop to your network, and complete the following steps. From the Main Menu of TaxSlayer Pro select:
- Configuration
- System and Network Configuration
- Are you using a Network? - Change the answer back to YES
- Electronic Drive - Set this to the drive on the laptop that is used to map it to the transmitting computer (N:)
- Exit and return to the Main Menu of the program.
Your laptop is now ready to import the tax returns that were prepared offsite to the network. Once the returns have been recalled on the network drive they will be able to be accessed by other computers on your network.
